Types of Polyester Blasting Media

Type I Polyester Blasting Media

Type II was broadly employed on aircraft evolving the media of alternative for depainting the entire fleet of F-4 Phantom fighters & CH-47 Chinook helicopters. Outside of aerospace, it is used in manufacturing processes, cleaning castings, molds, sand blasting machine operation, and other hardened aluminum or steel components. In some instances, it is used for profiling softer substrates such as graphite epoxy. The third abrasive media to come along was melamine formaldehyde, which primarily comes from the non-breakable dinnerware industry.
Type III Polyester Blasting Media
Polyester blasting abrasive media was harder than the Type II & had a hardness of 4.0 on the MOHS scale. This material has principally been utilized for removing tenacious thermal spray powder coatings & cleaning harder coatings or contaminants from durable surfaces. Melamine in fine sizes is also extensively utilized in the integrated circuit industry for deflashing.
Type IV Polyester Blasting Media
Type IV, phenol formaldehyde, did not prove popular with users & the next material developed was a high molecular weight cast acrylic. Type V acrylic had a hardness of 3.0 but had a reduced density of 1.2 combined with durable cutting edges & reusability.
Type V Polyester Blasting Media
Type V. For thin aluminum components, acrylic has been shown to be the most often used plastic abrasive media. Compared to Type II, it is less aggressive and has lower elimination rates. It is quite long-lasting and might be a decent option if you simply want to remove the topcoat, even though it won't remove many primers.
Type VI Polyester Blasting Media
