Zinc Metalizing Wire Details

Zinc Metalizing wire is a varied method that melts Zinc or Zinc Alloy metals, and then immediately propels the molten Zinc scraps onto a prepared substrate, producing a lamellar or layered coating. Metalizing gun Spraying as it is often called is a highly efficient and proven method of corrosion inhibition, giving galvanic as well as barrier coating protection to iron and steel.

Most protective coating systems for steel function solely by acting as a barrier between the steel and the corrosive environment. If these passive and permeable barriers are damaged or penetrated, moisture and oxygen can reach the steel causing rust and eventual coating failure. A zinc metalizing gun coating also offers barrier protection; however, the electrochemical relationship between zinc and steel allows a zinc coating to give cathodic protection as well.

A zinc metalized coating will preserve the steel galvanically: it will corrode in preference to steel, continuing to protect as long as any zinc remains in the immediate area. The surface of a metalized coating allows excellent adhesion of sealers and topcoats. The effect of this compound is a synergistic coating system that will preserve the underlying steel and require little or no maintenance for many years.

  • The normal precautions against fumes and dust hazards, such as wearing a mask and proper ventilation should be observed.
  • Any warning printed on containers by the sealer material manufacturers should be observed and the user should consult him in all cases of doubt regarding health and fire hazards arising from the product.
  • Grit blasting machine, METALIZING, and sealer operation should be carried out in dry weather conditions, sealing should not be done during damp and rainy weather without prior approval of the Engineer in charge of the work.
  • Spray coating should be applied without any undue delay and contamination of sprayed surfaces with oil, grease, dirt should be removed before application of sealer coat.
  • Sealers have to be used to fill coating pores so that the metallic coating and steel substrate can be protected from corrosive reagents or damaging environments such as seawater, steam, dilute acids, corrosive gases, etc.
  • Adequate precaution should be taken for operators‟ safety, particularly during grit blasting and Zinc alloy (Zinc 85%-Al 15) spraying.
  • The normal precautions against fumes and dust hazards, such as wearing a mask and proper ventilation should be observed. No special risk arises during the spraying of Zinc alloy (Zinc 85%-Al 15) spraying (If wearing proper PPE).
